INDIA VOTES 2024: Ashok Parashar Pappi, a Ludhiana native and AAP candidate

Ultimately, on Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declared their nominee for the parliamentary seat of Ludhiana. The AAP candidate for the Ludhiana seat is Ashok Parashar Pappi, a 59-year-old current member of the Ludhiana Central constituency. Former Congressman Parashar defeated Congress candidate Surinder Kumar Dawar and BJP candidate Gurdev Sharma Debi in the 2022 legislative assembly election from Ludhiana Central while running on the AAP platform. At that point, Debi had 27,985 votes, Dawar 26,972 votes, and Parashar 32,789 votes.

The moment the party revealed Parashar’s name today, his fans flocked to his house and began wishing him well. He praised God for the ticket once he got it. He thanked the party high command and pledged to uphold the confidence party leaders had placed in him.

The AAP leader and his party flag-carrying followers conducted a roadshow today. Those in attendance included major party officials Madan Lal Bagga, Kulwant Singh Sidhu, and AAP MLA Daljeet Singh Grewal. The party workers were yelling their candidate’s slogans.

In a social media post, Parashar thanked the whole AAP leadership—including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and National Convener Arvind Kejriwal—for giving him the job of leading the party’s Ludhiana campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. He gave the residents of the Ludhiana sector his word that he would always be there to help them as long as they supported him.

He made a jab at BJP candidate Ravneet Bittu in a media interview. He said that the populace knew that Bittu only visited the city for the elections and had witnessed what he had done over the previous ten years. Typically, Bittu did not answer the public’s calls.

In 2022, Parashar submitted an affidavit in order to run for the Assembly. He said that he completed Class VII at Khalsa National Higher Secondary School.

Following the party’s announcement of his candidacy, Parashar visited places of worship. Additionally, he honored the martyrs on the Jagraon bridge.
