ISRO releases photographs of Chandrayaan 3 as it reaches lunar orbit

Chandrayaan 3 has released its first images of the Moon. On Sunday, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) turned to social media to share the first photographs of the Moon acquired by Chandrayaan 3.

This statement comes just after ISRO successfully steered Chandrayaan-3 into lunar orbit without incident. This accomplishment is crucial for India’s third lunar voyage.

With less than 20 days till the spacecraft’s peaceful landing on the lunar landscape, a small film revealed the fine characteristics of the Moon’s surface features as the spacecraft approached.

“I’m experiencing lunar gravity,” was the first message sent by India’s third lunar mission after entering the Moon’s orbit, and it was later tweeted by the space agency on Saturday. After breaking away from Earth’s gravitational influence and traveling 384,400 kilometers, the spacecraft entered lunar orbit.

The entry into lunar orbit is a significant achievement within the scope of the space agency’s ambitious 600 crore project.

The spacecraft of the Chandrayaan-3 mission obtained a sight of the Moon as it entered lunar orbit on Saturday. The Indian Space Research Organization posted a video of the incident.

Chandrayaan-3, which launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on July 14, 2023, has covered a distance of more than three lakh kilometers in the space between Earth and the Moon. Following the completion of its orbits around the Earth’s sphere on August 1, the spacecraft began its journey to the Moon.

According to ISRO, Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-up mission to Chandrayaan-2, aimed to show the full capability of landing and exploring the Moon’s surface. The mission, which consists of a Lander and a Rover, was launched by LVM3 from SDSC SHAR in Sriharikota. The propulsion module propelled the lander and rover system into a 100-kilometer lunar orbit.
