Jalandhar: Tajinder Bittu, Karamjeet Chaudhary, and her kid are under “Y” security

The Centre has granted ‘Y’ category security to three Jalandhar politicians, including two who had just left the Congress to join the BJP.

The three leaders are Phillaur Congress MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary, former AICC secretary Tajinder Bittu, and Karamjeet Chaudhary, a contender for the Congress in the 2023 by-election from the Jalandhar Legislative Seat.

Although Bittu and Karamjeet Chaudhary joined the BJP, their son Vikramjit Chaudhary remains in the Congress and has been publicly opposing Jalandhar-born Congress candidate Charanjit Singh Channi.

Following his removal as an AICC member and suspension from the Congress, chief whip Vikramjit resigned yesterday on the directives of Punjab affairs minister Devendra Yadav.

On the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) directions, each of the three leaders would get eight armed CRPF commandos. The three are receiving protection as a result of threat analysis reports that Intelligence Bureau teams recently submitted to the MHA.

In the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, Karamjeet Chaudhary, the widow of the late Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, and Tajinder Bittu, the erstwhile Congress co-incharge for HP, had joined the BJP.

Although it has been customary for the BJP to provide central protection to almost all of its high-profile new hires, such as current Member of Parliament Sushil Rinku and MLA Sheetal Angural, Vikramjit’s provision of separate security has taken everyone by surprise.
