New Delhi: Dhananjay Singh, a former Jaunpur member of parliament, has been convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison in connection with the Namami Gange Yojana project manager’s abduction. A fifty thousand rupee fine has also been levied by the ADJ court in Jaunpur. A local court found former MP Dhananjay Singh and one other person guilty earlier on Tuesday of kidnapping “Namami Gange” project manager Abhinav Singhal, assaulting and threatening him, and demanding extortion.

Extra Meetings Following hearings from all sides, Judge Sharad Kumar Tripathi found Singh and his colleague Santosh Vikram to be guilty in this case.

Singh and his accomplice have been placed under arrest.

District Government Counsel (Criminal) Satish Pandey provided details of the case, stating that Abhinav Singhal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, had filed a case at the Linebazar police station on May 10, 2020, against Dhananjay Singh and his partner Vikram, alleging kidnapping, extortion, conspiracy, and other offenses.

According to the allegations, Vikram abducted Singhal along with two accomplices, brought him to the former MP’s house, where Dhananjay Singh arrived brandishing a weapon, mistreated Singhal, and put pressure on him to provide low-quality material. It was said that upon rejection, he demanded and threatened extortion.

According to Pandey, after being detained in this matter, the former MP was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court.

Dhananjay Singh, a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), was referred to as “Purvanchal Bahubali” during his tenure as a member of parliament in the 15th Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2014.

He was kicked out of the BSP in 2011 by its president, Mayawati, for allegedly engaging in anti-party actions.

Singh, who is now with the Janata Dal (United), has announced his intention to run for the Jaunpur seat in the next Lok Sabha elections via a post on “X.”

As an independent candidate running for the Rari Assembly seat in 2002, he had already won the election.
