Mumbai: BMC Issues Warning Following Youth’s Dietary Poisoning Death; Mankhurd Unauthorized Hawkers Targeted

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged all residents to take the necessary safety measures since eating meals in public and consuming poor-quality food might result in food poisoning cases. A young person in Mankhurd died after having Shawarma, and the municipal council has been informed.

The municipal corporation consistently implements a range of policies, projects, and campaigns aimed at improving the overall health of Mumbai’s populace. The municipal corporation’s public health service frequently distributes information to the general public regarding seasonal illness awareness and preventative measures. The Mumbai Municipal Health Department is providing instructions to the public in light of the increasing temperatures and their effects on food products, as well as the recent case of food poisoning.

Call to the populace:

It has been discovered that the food on the streets is improperly preserved and of low quality. Food deteriorates fast in rising temperatures. Food poisoning is one health issue that may arise from consuming food. There have been cases of food illness in the metropolitan area’s P North and M East divisions from exposed food products. Because poisoning may be fatal, individuals are advised to take the necessary safety measures.

Be cautious: Stay away from unlicensed vendors’ beverages and food, and eat fresh, home-cooked meals whenever possible. Parents of young children have been urged to take preventative measures by the local health department.

Suppression of street vendors

1) In Maharashtra Nagar in Mankhurd, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s anti-encroachment department took action against unregistered hawkers. Under the campaign, a total of fifteen hawkers were scheduled.

2) As part of the operation, items including veggies, hawkers’ boxes, and stands were taken. Eight employees participated in the operation, including two police officers, a senior inspector from BMC’s anti-encroachment department, and representatives from the medical health department.

3) Following the operation, there were no hawkers in the vicinity. The ‘M East’ division has also conducted ongoing operations in the region in the past.

4) A few locals had complained about unlicensed vendors operating in the neighborhood.
