Karnataka CM and DCM get emails threatening to set off bombs if USD 2.5 million isn’t paid

One day after the IED explosion at The Rameshwaram Cafe in Kundalahalli, the city’s chief minister, deputy chief minister, home minister, Bengaluru city police commissioner, and a few IPS officers received a threat email on March 2 demanding a ransom of $2.5 million, failing which there would be explosions in hotels, temples, trains, and prominent public places throughout Karnataka.

“We received a threat mail two or three days ago, but we did not disclose it,” Shivakumar said to reporters. We’ve requested that the cops look into it. A ransom of 2.5 million USD was demanded in the mail from the ID “Shahidkhan10786,” threatening to put explosives in hotels, buses, trains, and temples. If the demand is not fulfilled, he has threatened to detonate a bomb inside the Ambari Utsav bus. We’re not sure whether this is a fictitious email threat.

At around 2:48 PM, an email was received from [email protected], a suspected proxy ID, by someone going by the name Shahid Khan.

“Alert 01” and “Alert 02” were the subheads on the email that asked, “What are your opinions on the movie trailer? We will detonate massive bombs throughout Karnataka on buses, trains, taxis, hotels, temples, and public spaces if you do not give us the 2.5 million dollars. Let us provide you with one more trailer. The next one on the Ambari Utsav bus is likely to blow up. On social media, we will voice our demands after the Ambari Utsav bus explosion. and will share on social media images of the emails you get. We’ll tweet details about the upcoming explosion.

“We don’t know whether it is bogus, fraud, true, false, or blackmailer,” Shivakumar said. It has been sent to our police officials. They are working at their jobs.”

On Monday, at around 5:30 p.m., the cybercrime police filed a suo motu complaint in accordance with the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act. An investigation is underway to find the email’s origin.
