Ludhiana DC notifies authorities after conducting a surprise check at Mandai
Farmers and laborers are experiencing difficulties at the grain market on Gill Road here due to a lack of clean drinking water facilities.
On Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney carried out an unexpected check at the Gill Road mandi to make sure farmers had high-quality amenities at the mandis. She also asked the relevant authorities for answers for the inadequate cleaning and issued them with show-cause notes. She assessed the procurement process.
The DC made it very clear to the authorities that preparations need to be finished before grain arrives at the mandi. Such unannounced inspections, she added, will happen in the next few days after the formation of special teams.
Sawhney further emphasized that in order to prevent any inconveniences for the farmers and laborers working at the mandi, the government needed to make sure that there were enough provisions for clean drinking water, hygiene, fans, and shelters.
According to her, enough gunny bags were on hand, and all buy centers had already completed the necessary preparations for payment and hoisting so that farmers would be compensated for their goods within the allotted time.
