Mamata Banerjee: Bengal School Jobs: ‘Gross Injustice’

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, called the elimination of over 25,000 school positions on Thursday a “gross injustice” and said the BJP was using the move to prevent these unemployed people from being used for election duty.

Speaking at an election rally in the Paschim Medinipur district’s Medinipur Lok Sabha seat, Banerjee questioned how the schools could continue to run with so many teachers unemployed.

The State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) recruiting procedure in West Bengal government-sponsored and aided schools was deemed “null and void” earlier this week by the Calcutta High Court, which also ordered the annulment of all appointments made via it.

“Mistakes may be corrected if they have been made, but stealing 25,000 jobs is an egregious injustice. With so many teachers out of work, how will the schools run? “It is a BJP ploy.” Although I respect the court, there has been egregious unfairness, Banerjee said.

“So many jobs have been taken away so that central government employees, who will work at the behest of the saffron camp, can be engaged and these job losers cannot be deployed in poll duty during elections,” the speaker said.
