Man apprehended for defrauding a locality of Rs 1.29 crore by offering cheap land

In connection with an internet fraud worth Rs 1,29,64,783, the police have detained a guy who was posing as a local resident and offered bank-leased property at a reduced cost.

A police official said that the accused, Manoj, who is currently living in Sector 75 but was originally from the Ambala district, had claimed to be selling a 3,700 square yard plot via an online platform that looked similar to MSTC, a central public undertaking run by the Indian government’s Ministry of Steel.

The ostensibly authentic offer reportedly lured the victim, Mukesh from Mohna village, and two transactions totaling Rs 1,29,64783 were made into the suspect’s account as a result. The suspect is said to be representing MSTC in selling a site to a bank that had fallen behind on its lease payments.

According to police investigations, the accused copied and utilized the MSTC scheme auction announcement on a fake website in order to deceive unwary consumers. The accused promised the victim that the land would be purchased at a discounted price in accordance with the notice, and during the money transfer procedure, he created papers in the victim’s name. To mislead clients, the defendants falsified papers and altered data on the MSTC website.

The Central Police Station’s Economic Offenses Wing is reportedly already looking into a case comparable to this one. According to Sube Singh, a spokesman for the Police Department, the accused, who was taken into prison on Saturday after being captured from Delhi, would be questioned further during his three-day detention.
