Man assaults physician at ESI Hospital, detained

On Thursday, a doctor working at the ESI Hospital in this city, named Sunil Bhagat was reportedly beaten by a factory worker. The doctor had a severe attack and lost consciousness after the assault. He was in serious condition when he was brought to DMC in Ludhiana. The accused, Priya Ranjan, has been taken into custody by the police, who have also filed a complaint against him under many IPC sections, including an attempt to kill.

Based on the details obtained, a manufacturing worker approached Dr. Sunil Bhagat on Thursday afternoon while he was working at the hospital. The employee began recording a video on his phone. He reportedly scuffled and got into a brawl with Dr Bhagat when the latter prevented him from doing so. Dr Bhagat suffered a head injury as he collapsed during the altercation. The physician even had a severe cardiac arrest and lost consciousness.

He was placed on a ventilator at a neighboring hospital by medical workers as soon as they picked him up. The doctors immediately sent him to the DMC in Ludhiana due to his serious condition. The issue was brought to the attention of Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh in the interim.

In order to save Dr. Bhagat’s life, the minister spoke with the SSP and gave him instructions to send an escort and an ambulance to the Ludhiana hospital right away. Dr. Bhagat was taken to DMC after he gave the order for a district police escort to pull ahead of the ambulance.

Nonetheless, owing to the assault on Dr. Sunil Bhagat, the senior medical officer of the ESI, all physicians and medical officers continued to go on strike on Friday. At that time, SMO Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the doctor’s health had become worse as a result of the assault. According to him, every medical association has denounced the occurrence and urged the government to take strong action against individuals who carry out such crimes in public hospitals, strengthening security measures there.

SMO Swati, civil surgeon Balwinder Kumar, and medical professionals from Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur participated in a protest on the occasion. Dr. Balwinderjit, the president of the Hoshiarpur IMA, together with Drs. Sandeep, Rajinder Sharma, Surinder Singh, and Arvind Kumar, denounced the occurrence and expressed gratitude to Dr. Balbir, the Health Minister, for ordering the victim’s quick transfer to Ludhiana.

The Health Minister has said that in a democracy, the rule of law must be upheld and anti-social groups cannot make a mockery of law and order, according to IMA President Dr. Balwinderjit. An iron hand shall be applied to all miscreants.
