Manipur reports the first incidence of JN in COVID-19.There are 4,097 active instances in 1 sub-variant

A new COVID-19 case was reported from Manipur after an extended time without new infections. The afflicted person, who is from Paomata in the Senapati district, had taken an aircraft from Delhi to Dimapur and then a road from Dimapur to Senapati. To find out additional information, samples have been submitted for genome sequencing, although the precise viral variety is yet unknown.

To stop the virus from possibly spreading, authorities are keeping a careful eye on the situation. Because of the introduction of sub-variant JN.1, the rise in COVID-19 cases has become a national health problem, with many states reporting new cases. Data from the Union Health Ministry shows that 692 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in India in the last 24 hours. There were 4,097 active cases, an increase of four. Six fatalities were recorded in the previous 24 hours, according to government data: two in Maharashtra and one each in Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, and West Bengal.

The cumulative count since the coronavirus epidemic in January 2020 is 4,50,10,944. There have been 5,33,946 deaths in India thus far. of response to the increase of COVID-19 cases caused by the JN.1 sub-variant in many states, Safdarjung Hospital in the nation’s capital has taken additional preparations, such as reserving patient beds and arranging for testing and oxygen. This comes after AIIMS. Nine ICU beds and fifty isolation beds have been set aside by the hospital administration.

In addition, the hospital has made all the necessary preparations for COVID testing, PPE kits, and oxygen. Dr. Neeraj Gupta, a senior pulmonologist and former head of Safdarjung Hospital, said, “JN.1 is an Omicron variation. The virus is really mild. This mutation merely gives the virus the benefit of being able to get through our immune systems and infect us like a regular virus. We do not anticipate any admissions or increased admission rates since, like any viral illness, this one is minor and not particularly serious.”

According to him, individuals who suffer from severe conditions that lower their immune system, or who have comorbidities, often have higher rates of morbidity and death. “We had one patient of Covid, which was rapid antigen positive when the patient got admitted, and now the patient is negative, so we don’t really know whether it’s genuine or not, but we are testing all the patients who are suspected of Covid-like symptoms, and still now we have not detected any,” said Dr. Gupta.

JN.1 is now considered to be a variation of interest by the World Health Organization (WHO), different from its parent lineage BA.2.86. The global health organization did, however, stress that, according to available data, the overall danger presented by JN.1 is still low.
