Mehbooba Mufti announces her candidacy for office, claiming that “all of Kashmir has been turned into a jail.”

With a road show here on Tuesday, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti officially began her campaign for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, promising to give voice to the voiceless in Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the road show, Mufti informed reporters, “I have started my election campaign to raise voice against this enforced silence, the wanton arrests and the atmosphere of suffocation that prevails here.”

We have always had the backing of Pulwama and Shopian, and here is where I launched my campaign. I’m hoping that people would support our voice, which discusses Jammu and Kashmir’s scars,” she said. The National Conference candidate and well-known Gujjar leader, Mian Altaf Ahmad, is running against the former chief minister. He said that since the polls were declared, a practice of detaining young people has begun.

“Kashmir has been turned into a prison throughout. Nobody is permitted to speak. The arrest procedure began as soon as the polls were declared, according to Mufti.

“It’s sad that there have been reports of extremists shooting at a tour guide in Shopian. She clarified, “But that does not imply you would round up hundreds of young people and put them under the Public Safety Act.

According to the mufti, the problem was not exclusive to Pulwama area or Shopian. It is not limited to the districts of Pulwama and Shopian; this mood has spread across Kashmir. “Why are they making these unnecessary arrests if they’re saying that everything is normal?” she questioned.

Waheed Para, the PDP’s youth president and contender for the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, accompanied the party’s president. Waheed is with me here. He’s been through everything over the last few years. He seems to capture Kashmir and what’s going on with its people and young, in my opinion,” the woman said.

On May 7, the third round of voting will take place for the Lok Sabha seat representing Anantnag and Rajouri.
