When a lady passenger on an air-conditioned suburban train headed for Virar bit a female Ticket Checker (TC) in an effort to get away, a regular train ride descended into chaos. Around 1:30 pm on Thursday, the incident happened between the Dahisar and Mira Road train stops.

The fight started as the ticket checker, Atira Surendranath (26), was going through tickets on the empty AC train. The passenger, Singh, tried to duck the TC’s question when she was requested to show her ticket.

Sustained, Surendranath gave Singh the order to get down at the Mira Road station. Singh, a homemaker from Naigaon, responded by contacting her husband Sachdev, who ordered an AC ticket online and sent it to her over WhatsApp. But the TC made it clear that a ticket cannot be purchased after the trip has started and demanded that Singh pay the charge.

“Surendranath grabbed Singh and made her get off at the Mira Road station as the quarrel became more heated. Singh chewed the TC on her hands in a last-ditch effort to get away, according to witnesses.

After apprehension, Surendranath’s comrades brought Singh to the Vasai GRP. She was arrested there for unauthorized entrance in violation of Indian Railway Act sections 147, 332, and 353.
