Not a love jihad: The Karnataka administration is incensed over the death of a college student

A political firestorm has erupted in the state after the death of a Karnataka Congress corporator’s daughter within a Hubballi college campus. The opposition BJP and the Congress administration are at odds over accusations of “love jihad.”

On Thursday, Fayaz assaulted 23-year-old Neha, a Masters of Computer Applications (MCA) student, on the campus of BVB College in Hubballi. On camera, Fayaz repeatedly stabbed Neha before escaping. According to the police, Fayaz, who was subsequently taken into custody, repeatedly stabbed the lady till she died.

THE FATHER OF THE VICTIM SAID
Niranjan Hiremath, the victim’s father, said that the family knew Fayaz, the accused, and that they had even attempted to talk him out of going after Neha.

“He was an old student, and he had proposed to my daughter, but she rejected his proposal,” stated Hiremath. She avoided much of this since she didn’t like him. Refusing to accept his proposal, she said that she did not want a relationship with him and that their castes were different. He stabbed my daughter because he was angry.”

He went on, “The victim refused the accused’s proposal of love, which is the cause for the murder… Before the occurrence, we spoke with the accused and told him that because you are Muslim and we are Hindu, we are unable to approve of your marriage.”

TERROR OF WORDS ABOUT “LOVE JIHAD”
The Siddaramaiah-led Congress administration came under fire from the BJP, which said that it was prioritizing appeasement above maintaining law and order.

This is a tragic situation, and I think there’s a ‘love jihad’ component to it. The girl was killed after she turned down (the guy’s) advances. Law and order do not exist under the Congress administration, according to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Those accusations were categorically denied by the Karnataka administration. G Parameshwara, the state home minister, said that Neha and Fayaz were romantically involved prior to their breakup.

I’m not sure of the specifics yet, but maybe he stabbed her because she was going to marry someone else. However, because it was a mutual connection, Parameshwara said that it doesn’t seem to be an instance of love jihad.

The BJP is allegedly attempting to instill fear and panic, according to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. “The BJP is attempting to intimidate by demonstrating that Karnataka lacks law and order. Law and order are at their finest in Karnataka. All they are attempting to do is inform the electorate that the state will be implementing the governor’s rule. They are unable to succeed. Everybody’s experience with the law will be unique, according to Shivakumar.

Hindutva groups have used the term “love jihad” to describe a relationship in which a Muslim man and a non-Muslim woman exist, in which the Muslim partner wants to convert the non-Muslim.

PROTESTS BY THE BJP YOUTH WING
The BJP’s student wing, the ABVP, expressed indignation over the campus murder and demanded justice for Neha’s killing. Thousands of students took part in the protests, obstructing traffic and demanding an end to the Hubballi College bandh.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah pleaded for calm and promised a comprehensive probe to the people. “An accused has already been arrested in connection with the incident, and I have instructed the Director General of Police to conduct a strict investigation and take action so that the accused receives the maximum punishment,” stated the president.
