Odisha: According to IMD, mercury will soon reach 45 degrees in several areas

Following a short respite, the state saw a return of the heatwave on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius and higher in at least 29 locations. Baripada maintained its top spot with a temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius, the highest of the season so far, according to the IMD.

IMD authorities issued a warning, stating that there won’t be any quick respite from the heatwave, which is expected to last for four more days and cause daytime temperatures to rise to 45 degrees Celsius in some areas between April 18 and 20. Nevertheless, throughout this time, certain locations will continue to get occasional thundershowers.

Four other locations—Nuapada, Paralakhemundi, Talcher, and Boudh—recorded temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius or higher on the same day as Baripada. Eleven more locations registered 40 degrees Celsius or higher, while 13 further locations sizzled at 41 degrees Celsius or higher. Officials said that the day’s temperature in the nation’s capital, Bhubaneswar, was 4 degrees Celsius above average.

The return of the heatwave, which is mostly caused by the dry air currents blowing in from the northwest and west and strong solar insolation, will raise daytime temperatures in most sections of the state by two to four degrees over the course of the next three days, according to meteorological authorities. Over the course of the next four to five days, several regions may see a 3 to 5 degree increase in temperature over average.

As a result, they recommended that individuals exercise care while stepping outdoors throughout the day, particularly between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Parts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Malkangiri are expected to experience heatwave conditions until April 20, according to the IMD notice. Similarly, areas of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are anticipated to see hot and muggy weather during this time.
