Odisha: Runaya vows to turn metal into a pathway

Runaya, a pioneer in environmentally friendly production and recycling, recently showcased its cutting-edge calcium aluminate factory in Jharsuguda as a means of tackling environmental issues.

Runaya’s Green Aluminum Recovery Plant is at the forefront of technologically enabled innovation, with sustainability at its heart. Runaya is leading the shift towards a circular economy by using sustainable raw materials such as depleted dross. This is helping the company reduce its carbon impact and tackle a big industrial hurdle. Now, the mounds of dross that would have taken up significant space at the plant locations or ended up in landfills are being transformed into goods with enhanced value.

Runaya recovers aluminum from aluminum dross by processing it using a proprietary method. In contrast to its international rivals, Runaya extracts 90% of the aluminum that is accessible from the dross and uses the remaining dross to create value-added goods. Runaya’s Green Aluminum portfolio has been strategically expanded with this factory, which has a total capacity of 30,000 MT (briquettes + calcium aluminate), of which 12,000 MT is dedicated to calcium aluminate. Along with value-added goods necessary for steelmaking, it will mark the launch of the environmentally friendly “RuCal Green” calcium aluminate to its Steel Slag Conditioner sector, in line with a zero waste and zero discharge plan. Runaya’s calcium aluminate products are distinguished by their ecologically aware features, which combine product uniformity with customization to satisfy the unique demands of customers.

Patents for “Manufacturing of Alumina from Dross” and “Activation unit of Dross” have previously been awarded to Runaya. In addition, 50 additional patents are being worked on.

According to Ananya Agarwal, CEO and co-founder of Runaya, “innovation and sustainability are ingrained in our dna at Runaya.” Our dedication to leading the way in the metals business in environmentally friendly solutions is further shown by the opening of our calcium aluminate facility. We are fostering a history of ethical production, not merely constructing a facility.
