Opposition Delegation Visits Victims In Churachandpur Relief Camp: “People Of Manipur Extremely Sad”

On Saturday, a group of 21 opposition MPs arrived in Manipur for a two-day tour. The MPs visited Manipur’s relief camps and would probably see Governor Anusuiya Uikey.

Since May 3, Meitei and tribal groups in Manipur have been engaged in ethnic warfare. The violence has already claimed the lives of over 150 people and forced hundreds to flee their homes. Houses, churches, and governmental institutions have all been attacked.

MPs from the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), DMK, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Janata Dal-United (JD-U), and CPM are included in the delegation. According to PTI, the team, which includes Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, would give suggestions to the government and Parliament for a solution to Manipur’s challenges based on their observations.

Visits to relief camps by opponents

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Congress member who recently visited a relief camp in the Churachandpur region, said that “it is obvious from their looks that they are really afraid. They don’t want to converse with anybody. They are aware that this government will not assist them in any way. They mention CBI investigations concerning crimes that have been committed. I would want to know whether they (the central government) have been asleep up to this point,” he said.

Leaders of the opposition visited relief facilities and spoke with the displaced.

The unfortunate thing is that the Government of India should have sent a team, but Opposition parties have to send a delegation here, TMC MP Sushmita Dev said. “It was important for us to come and meet the victims here.”

Schedule for opposition MP’s trip to Manipur

Before leaving Delhi for Manipur, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary told reporters that they wanted to stop at as many relief camps as they could and speak with the afflicted people.

The opposition MPs took a commercial airplane to Manipur.

“Our goal is to evaluate the situation as it is in the state. According to Chaudhary, the state should work to bring peace, normality, and an end to the misery and suffering of the people of Manipur. “We hope that the state government will not create any obstacles during our visit,” he said.

They will also meet with Governor Anusuiya Uikey, according to Chaudhary, and share with her their impressions of the trip.

“The administration tries to portray the unrest in Manipur as a law-and-order issue, but it is more than that since there have been ethnic confrontations there. The problem is being debated all across the globe, therefore the government shouldn’t attempt to avoid it, Chaudhary added, according to PTI.

Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, demanded an investigation into the violence in Manipur before the visit, according to PTI.

According to sources speaking to PTI, the opposition group wrote to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who then authorized the delegation’s visit.

According to PTI, “The MPs have requested to use helicopters in Manipur and, if permitted, they will visit the remote areas of Churachandpur, where new violence has occurred.”

Who all is traveling to Manipur?

There are 21 MPs from opposition parties now in Manipur.

Along with Chaudhary and Gogoi, the delegation also consists of Trinamool Congress leader Sushmita Dev, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Mahua Maji, DMK leader Kanimozhi, NCP leader Mohammad Faizal, Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Manoj Kumar Jha, Revolutionary Socialist Party leader N K Premachandran, Ras

When opposition lawmakers visited Manipur

The opposition MPs’ trip occurs despite the BJP’s request that they forgo their planned trip to Manipur. The opposition is allegedly trying to incite unrest in the state, according to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Anurag Thakur, a minister for the Union, described the visit as “an act.”

“It is just a showoff by the INDIA alliance MPs who have gone to Manipur,” Thakur told the journalists. When Manipur used to burn under their reign, the opposition and its supporters remained silent.I’ll ask Congressman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to bring them to West Bengal once they return from Manipur. I want to know whether Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury supports the state’s crimes against women. The opposition avoided Rajasthan, where there are more deaths and crimes against women. Will the INDIA alliance visit Rajasthan as well?

The Manipur issue has caused a stalemate in Parliament during the current Monsoon Session, with the Opposition MPs calling for a protracted debate as well as a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amit Shah, the home minister, shall reply to the opposition, the administration has said. Weeks ago, the Opposition criticized Modi for being mute on the subject.

The Manipur issue has caused heated exchanges in the Parliament, and the session has been mostly abandoned due to adjournments and the lack of progress.
