PM Modi to Unveil World’s First Vedic Clock in Ujjain; Describes How Time Is Calculated

Today in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will introduce the “Vikramaditya Vedic Clock,” which uses the Indian “Panchang” (time calculation technique) to determine the passing of time.

Through a video hookup, the prime minister will today launch a number of development projects in Ujjain.

“The Indian system of time calculation is the oldest, subtle, pure, error-free, authentic and reliable method in the world,” reads a news statement from the government about the clock. The most dependable system is being restored in Ujjain as the Vikramaditya Vedic Clock.

“The hour that Ujjayini (Ujjain) fixed and conveyed has been observed by people all across the globe. Based on the movements of celestial constellations and Indian astronomical theory, Indian time computations include the least percentage of time, it said.

Concerning the Vedic Clock
The clock is situated next to the Government Jiwaji Observatory on an 85-foot tower within Jantar Mantar in Ujjain.

The Times of India cited Sri Ram Tiwari, the director of the Maharaja Vikramaditya Research Institute, as saying, “It will be the first clock in the world in which Indian time calculation will be displayed.” The Vedic Clock, which is located in Ujjain, is regarded as the hub for timekeeping. Through Ujjain lies the Cancer Tropic.

HOW CAN I OPERATE THIS CLOCK?
This clock will show the Indian Standard Time (IST) and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in addition to calculating time depending on a variety of factors, including the Vedic Hindu Panchang, planetary positions, Muhurat, astrological computations, solar eclipses, and lunar eclipses.

The period from one sunrise to the next is used to calculate time.

The Times of India cited Shishir Gupta, a member of the Vedic clock development team, as explaining the clock’s operation. “The clock will determine the time between sunrises. The interval between the two sunrises will be split into 30 hours, with 48 minutes in each hour. Beginning at 0:00, the readout will display sunrise functions for a duration of 30 hours, or 48 minutes.

Why did you join UJJAIN?
Ujjain was previously thought to be India’s central meridian, and the city set the nation’s time zones and time difference, according to Hindu astronomical doctrine. It is also the foundation of Hindu calendar time.

Ujjain is situated exactly where the Tropic of Cancer and Zero Meridians meet. Additionally, it is situated in the oldest observatory in India, which Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur constructed in the early 1700s.

The longitude that passes through Greenwich is recognized as the zero meridian, or the Prime Meridian, by the meridians agreement of 1884. In Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, which is located at 82°30′ East longitude, IST—four hours ahead of GMT—is computed, according to a report from Hindustan Times.
