Residents of Burari lament the horrific traffic jams

Residents of Burari have had to put up with lengthy traffic jams since the Delhi Jal Board is currently building a sewage pipe in the region. Everyone has been badly impacted by the blocked main arteries, such as the Sant Nagar Marg, which affect everyone from office workers to students.

The building project has been ongoing for more than a year, traveling from one section to the next at a glacial pace. Due to the area’s unstable soil and proximity to the Yamuna River floodplain, several collapses have occurred, which has further slowed down building.

The majority of the roadways are covered by the haphazard and dispersed construction, giving commuters very little room to maneuver. It used to take me less than an hour to get across Burari every day. Now, it takes almost three hours to travel the same distance,” Baba community resident Prakash Mishra said.

Numerous sizable hospitals are located in the region, however, patients must overcome significant obstacles to get to these facilities. “Last month, my daughter’s health seriously deteriorated, necessitating an emergency ride to the hospital. However, the road’s state made it difficult for us to go to the hospital, and as a result, her health quickly deteriorated,” Sant Nagar resident Vandana Singh said.

Additionally, locals have often voiced their dissatisfaction with the parking options in the vicinity. Another local resident, Narendra, said that “people are left with no choice but to park on the side of the roads, which only makes the traffic situation worse.”

The region has faced increasing traffic in recent years due to an influx of new migrants, even though Burari’s public transportation infrastructure has recently improved with the installation of new DTDC buses.
