Seek Votes On The Government’s Performance Rather Than Giving “Hate Speeches”: Kharge To PM Modi

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge delivered a harsh assault on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, claiming that after the elections, people would only remember him as the PM who engaged in “divisive and communal speeches filled with lies” in order to stave off an inevitable loss. Kharge advised the prime minister to stop making “hate speeches” and instead ask for votes on how well his administration has performed over the last 10 years.

Following the second round of the Lok Sabha elections, the PM sent a letter to NDA candidates, which included accusations and attacks on the Congress party. The Congress president responded to these accusations in a letter to Prime Minister Modi. In the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Modi has urged the BJP-led NDA candidates to inform people about the Congress’s plan to take “reservation from SC, ST, and OBC communities and give it away to their vote bank.”

Despite the fact that religiously motivated reservations are illegal, Modi accused the Congress and its supporters of having polarizing and discriminatory intentions in a private letter he sent to them. “I saw the letter written by you to all the NDA candidates about what they need to communicate to the voters,” Kharge wrote to Modi. It seems from the letter’s tone and substance that you are very worried and desperate, which is why you are using language unfit for the prime minister’s office. “The letter gives the impression that you want your candidates to magnify their falsehoods since they aren’t having the desired impact from your lies in your speeches. A falsehood won’t become the truth just because it is said a thousand times, he claimed.

According to the head of the Congress, people are bright enough to read and comprehend what the party has pledged on its platform and what it has stated in its manifesto on their own. We don’t need to explain our assurances to them since they are so straightforward and obvious. In his letter, Kharge expounded on the party’s Yuva Nyay, Nari Nyay, Kisan Nyay, Shramik Nyay, and Hissedari Nyay, saying, “For your benefit, I will reiterate them here.”

“We’ve heard you and the Home Minister claim that appeasement politics is being used by the Congress. The appeasing of the Chinese by you and your ministers is the only appeasement strategy that we have seen in the last ten years. Even now, you refuse to refer to China as “Ghuspaithiye.” Instead, on June 19, 2020, you insulted the greatest sacrifice made by 20 Indian troops at Galwan by saying, “Na Koi Ghusa Hai, Na Hi Koi Ghus Aaya hai.” Your open “Clean Chit” to China has made India’s argument weaker and more aggressive. The construction of military infrastructure near the Line of Actual Command (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand has heightened tensions, but in the last five years alone, Chinese imports into India have increased by 54.76%, and in 2023–2024, they will surpass USD 101 billion, the official stated.

“Our votebank is every Indian—the poor, the marginalised, the women, the aspirational youth, the labour class, the Dalits and the Adivasis,” Kharge said, pointing out that the PM had claimed in his letter to NDA candidates that reservations would be taken away from SC, ST, and OBC and given to the Congress’ votebank. Everyone is aware that since 1947, the BJP and RSS have resisted reservations at every turn. “Your leaders have discussed it candidly. According to Article 16 of our Constitution, you should explain why you oppose granting reservations to SCs, STs, and OBCs based only on their numbers, Kharge remarked. You said in your letter that people’s hard-earned money would be taken and given away. Using this as an opportunity, I would like to ask your party to return the Rs 10 crore that was embezzled from the Gujarati Dalit farmers and provided to the BJP as electoral bonds,” Kharge stated.

Through the “illegal and unconstitutional” Electoral Bonds, he charged the BJP with collecting Rs 8,250 crore. He said that Modi’s letter “lies” to suggest that the Congress intends to implement inheritance taxes, despite the fact that BJP party officials and a former finance minister have made inheritance taxes a point of discussion.

“It seems from your letter that you are concerned about the low voter participation in the election’s first two stages. It demonstrates that the public is not enthused by your policies or your speech during the campaign. The Congress head said, “This is not because of the summer heat; rather, it is because your policies have burned the poor.” According to Kharge, the prime minister has no interest in discussing the issues that the public is facing, such as the rising rates of unemployment, inequality, and inflation.

He wrote to Modi, saying, “You are not interested in talking about the increasing atrocities on women by your leaders.” According to Kharge, the Congress manifesto mentions “Nyay” and how it would advance all facets of society.

As prime minister, it would be preferable if you asked for votes on how well your administration has performed over the last 10 years rather than making divisive remarks. The Congress Party wants to discuss our manifesto and the topics you have raised with you or anybody you designate,” he said. “When this election is over, people will only remember you as the prime minister who indulged in divisive and communal speeches filled with lies to avoid an inevitable defeat, as I mentioned in my earlier letter,” Kharge added.
