Sirsa government schools see a drop in student enrollment

The number of pupils attending Sirsa district government schools is steadily declining. There are around 17,000 fewer pupils enrolled in government schools this year than there were the year before. In addition to teachers’ attempts to enhance student enrollment in government schools via door-to-door campaigns, the Education Department is attempting to determine the reasons for this. These initiatives haven’t yet produced the anticipated outcomes, however.

In the district’s government schools, there are 1,14,428 students enrolled in classes XII through preschool this academic year, compared to 132,242 pupils in the previous one. This indicates that 17,814 pupils who attended government schools the previous school year are not enrolled in this one. Even though the admissions process is still in progress and the Class XII results are still pending, there has been a noticeable shift in enrollment.

Teachers at government schools said that, since the since the beginning of last year, the Education Directorate has raised the age requirement for school admissions. They claimed that the requirement that a kid be six years old in order to be admitted to Class I was incorrect. They said that parents enroll their children in private schools since these institutions accept students as young as three. He said, “A student does not come in government school ever if he attends a private school once.” After Class X, children must study for competitive examinations, which is another important factor. Teachers think that a lot of new establishments in the area are distracting pupils from their education by offering tutoring for government jobs or sending them overseas after Class X.

Teachers from government schools ran door-to-door campaigns during Pravesh Utsav, the admissions festival. Now that fewer kids are attending, the Education Department has given all instructors instructions on how to identify dropouts.

However, Buta Ram, the Sirsa district officer for basic education, said that the government was working on this issue. He said that the admissions procedure is also in progress.
