Software Professional in Maharashtra Loses Rs. 17,21,000 to Cybercrime

An official said on Thursday that a 42-year-old software professional from Maharashtra’s Thane district lost Rs 17.2 lakh after being conned by two people who promised him quick money via a “part-time” employment.

On August 3, a man and a woman contacted the complainant, who works for a renowned Indian IT company, and offered him a part-time job in the field of hotel reservations, the official said.

The group allegedly emailed him a link to do the task using the Telegram app, according to the police.

The technician was first instructed to pay a little fee for registration. The two then used a variety of justifications, including promises of easy money, to convince him to pay extra.

The pair got evasive when the IT expert questioned them about the money they had promised him after they had extracted Rs 17.28 lakh from him over the course of the next several days, the officer said.

The Ambernath police on Tuesday filed a case under the IT Act in response to a complaint from the technician. Rahul Sharma and Sneha were the names given by the police as the defendants.
