“Spidey” on the police web, breaking the law

New Delhi: He was the Spiderman of Najafgarh. Nevertheless, Aditya Verma, 20, paid a high price for dressing up as the popular comic book and movie superhero to film videos for social media sites when he chose to ride a bike while donning the outfit. After being charged with many crimes by the Delhi Police, he now faces a fine of more than Rs 21,000.

When a video showing Verma riding a bike and doing acrobatics with a female who was wearing a similar outfit appeared on social media a few days earlier, the authorities became interested in him.

Using the video and a few technological clues, the police were able to locate Verma and the 19-year-old female.

On Friday, Verma’s picture resurfaced on X. Even though he was still wearing his Spider-Man outfit, he was surrounded by police officers and traffic cops who were giving him a list of the charges he had been charged with. Verma, using the handle “Indian_Spidey,” has posted a number of reels and films on websites like YouTube and Instagram.

Verma, a student, was also challenged in the past, according to the police.
According to DCP Ankit Singh, they moved after a media article became widely shared on social media. “In the video, a person was doing acrobatics on Urban Extension Road-II while riding a bike without a license plate and dressed as Spider-Man. After an investigation, it was discovered that the rider was a Najafgarh resident, the DCP said.

Sections 5/180, 194D, 3/181, 177, 125(2) CMVR/177, 184 MV Act, 50,51 CMVR/39/192 MV Act, and 209 MV Act have been filed against the rider for offenses such as driving recklessly, failing to show a license plate, and operating a vehicle without a helmet.

Verma has apologized and pledged to ride sensibly and obey traffic laws, according to the police. He released the girl who was riding the pillion.
