Tamil Nadu: Polling in the Kovai area goes smoothly

With the exception of a few glitches that were recorded in some polling places, the Lok Sabha election was mostly calm throughout the Coimbatore area.

Reporters were informed by Coimbatore district collector Kranthi Kumar Pati that engineers had fixed a few voting place delays. Wheelchairs for the elderly and those with disabilities were set up at voting places, but individuals were unable to use them since no one was there to provide assistance.

“In all, 3,376 ballot units, 1688 control units, and 1688 VVPATs were used for polling at the 1,688 polling stations in the constituency,” Erode Returning Officer Raja Gopal Sunkara said in a statement to reporters. During the test vote in the morning, it was discovered that 3. 18 (0.53 %) Ballot Units, 17 (1.01 %) Control Units, and 26 (1.54 %) VVPATs were malfunctioning and were replaced.

Moreover, during the actual polling, 4 (0.12%) ballot units, 2 (0.12%) control units, and 13 (0.77%) VVPATs failed. These were little problems. Those devices were swapped out. Polling proceeded without a hitch after that. He continued.

Ten polling places in the Nilgiris district had a minimum one-hour delay in voting due to malfunctioning electronic voting machines. Following the replacement of the EVMs, polling began again at 8:20 am, according to sources.
