The flood situation in Assam worsens, affecting more than 1.91 lakh people in 17 districts

As a result of the current flood wave, which has impacted approximately 1.91 lakh people in 17 districts, the situation in Assam has become worse.

Nearly 47,400 people have been impacted in Lakhimpur district, 41,000 in Dhemaji district, 28,000 in Golaghat district, 21,500 in Sivasagar district, and 17,800 in Sonitpur district, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

One person drowned in floodwaters in the Sivasagar district in the last day, bringing the state’s total number of fatalities this year to 15.

The water levels of the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are increasing and have surpassed the danger level threshold at numerous locations in the state as a result of excessive rains in Assam and the neighboring state of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) report, the Subansiri River has crossed the danger level mark at Badatighat in Lakhimpur District, Dikhou and Disang River in Sivasagar, Puthimari River at NH Road Crossing in Kamrup District, and Pagladiya River at NH Road Crossing in Nalbari District. On the other hand, numerous other rivers are also seeing increasing water levels. According to the ASDMA flood report, the flood had an impact on a total of 522 communities within 42 revenue circles.

In four flood-affected areas, the district government has established 45 relief distribution centers and two relief camps. The flood also harmed more than 1.30 lakh household animals and fowl.

Teams from the local government and the SDRF have been working on rescue efforts in the flood-affected regions. In 17 districts, 8086.40 hectares of cropland were drowned by the floodwaters.

38 villages and 363.50 hectares of cropland have been inundated in Biswanath district by floodwaters.

In Biswanath, Darranga, and Udalguri districts, the floodwaters burst four embankments, causing damage to 18 roads, two bridges, a number of Anganwadi centers, protective bundh, electric poles, and schools.
