More than 1,800 athletes who haven’t received prize money since 2017 will get cash from the Punjab government

According to a statement released on Sunday, the Punjab government will present monetary rewards to 1,807 athletes who have been waiting for them for more than five years.

A list of these medal winners who have not received financial prizes since 2017 has been compiled by the state’s sports administration, it was reported.

At the second season of “Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan”‘s inaugural ceremony in Bathinda on August 29, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will provide 1,807 athletes with a total prize fund of Rs 5.94 crore.

The Punjab administration was made aware that several athletes in the state, despite winning gold, had not collected financial prizes for the previous five years, according to sports minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer.

Mann instructed the sports department to compile a list of these athletes and award them appropriately.

The sports department compiled a list of athletes whose total award money as of 2017 was Rs. 5.94 crore.

According to Hayer, these athletes elevated the state by taking home gold from regional, national, and worldwide events.

According to him, among others, the 997 athletes who won medals in 2017–18 would earn Rs 1.58 crore, 135 athletes in 2018–19 will receive Rs 47.96 lakh, 287 athletes in 2019–20 will receive Rs 1.75 crore, and 51 athletes in 2020–21 will receive Rs 19.05 lakh.
