The PM and the Emir of Qatar spoke about measures to strengthen their relationship

In an effort to improve bilateral relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks on Thursday. However, neither leader addressed the issue of Doha’s release of eight former Indian Navy personnel who had been given death sentences or the $78 billion agreement to import gas from Qatar starting in 2029 for the next 20 years, which is believed to be the largest gas contract extension in history.

“Had an amazing encounter with Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad. We went over the whole spectrum of ties between Qatar and India and spoke about how to strengthen collaboration in a number of areas. The PM said on X, “Our countries also look forward to working together in futuristic sectors which will benefit our planet.”

Following a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister Modi landed in Doha on Wednesday night. Modi visited Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Foreign Minister and Prime Minister of Qatar, shortly after his arrival.

The two presidents discussed ways to increase bilateral cooperation in areas including technology, commerce, investment, energy, and finance. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), “They also talked about recent regional developments in West Asia and emphasized the importance of upholding peace and stability in the region and beyond.” “The two friendly countries discussed ways to support and develop their cooperation relations during the meeting, particularly in the fields of energy, commerce, and investment,” the Qatari Foreign Ministry stated.

The prime minister of Qatar gave Modi a meal after their meeting. S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, and Ajit Doval, the national security adviser, were also present at the meeting. After a successful visit to Qatar, Prime Minister Modi departed for Delhi, according to MEA spokesman Randhir Jaiswal. “After a productive visit, the PM departs for New Delhi, capping off a significant chapter in India-Qatar ties,” he wrote on X.

“The bond between India and Qatar has gained fresh vigor as a result of my visit there. India is eager to increase collaboration in important areas such to investment, commerce, technology, and culture. I express my gratitude to the Qatari government and people for their kindness,” the PM wrote on X.

When the eight ex-Navy men’s fate was still up in the air, PM Modi and the Amir of Qatar held their most recent meeting outside the COP28 Summit in Dubai.
