Uma Bharti declares, “I Have Not Left Politics; I Will Run in the Next Election”

Uma Bharti, a senior BJP figure and a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, has declared that she would run for office in the next election.

She spoke to a crowd on Monday in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh’s Bundelkhand area, explaining that she had been working for a while and had just taken a five-year hiatus.

“Since I had been working for a while, I had declined to run in the election (the previous time). I considered pausing for five years. People believed that I had resigned from politics, but I am sick of repeating myself,” she stated.

Bharti said that whilst she was in politics, various development projects, like as the Lalitpur-Singrauli train line and the Ken-Betwa river interlinking project, came to fruition.

“I will continue to be involved in politics and run in the next election whether I’m 75 or 85. I really like politics, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said. She said that individuals who see politics as a source of luxury have damaged it. While the Lok Sabha elections are slated for next year, the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections are due in November of this year.

Bharti last ran for office in the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh), and after winning, joined the BJP cabinet at the federal level under Narendra Modi as a Union minister.

Bharti, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, voiced her unhappiness earlier this month for not receiving an invitation to the BJP’s “Jan Ashirwad Yatra,” which was introduced by party leader J P Nadda on September 3.

In the past, Bharti also conducted a campaign calling for a strict alcohol regulation in the state and protested by throwing rocks at a few liquor stores.

Throughout this demonstration, the former Union minister also organized rallies at different bars in Bhopal, Orchha, and Chhindwara. She remained at a temple as part of her protest and demanded changes to the alcohol policy.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan appointed Rahul Singh Lodhi, an MLA from Khargapur (Tikamgarh district), as a minister of state during the enlargement of his cabinet in the last week of August.
