Unaccounted cash of Rs 2.58 lakh was found in two

At the Golden Gate checkpoint here on Thursday, the municipal police detained two individuals and took away Rs 2.58 lakh in undeclared cash.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Darpan Ahluwalia, Dharamkot-based garment seller Anil Kumar was discovered in possession of Rs 98,500 in cash. He was unable to present any paperwork pertaining to the money, which the police eventually confiscated.

Similarly, Chamkaur Singh of Baba Bakala had Rs 1.6 lakh taken from him by the police from a naka.

“A video of the counting of the cash was made in front of the Amritsar South assembly constituency’s flying squad and it was deposited in the maalkhana and information was shared with Income Tax authorities,” said ADCP Ahluwalia.

Due to the Model Code of Conduct being implemented in anticipation of the 18th Lok Sabha election, the Election Commission of India has placed limits on bringing more than Rs 50,000 in cash, as well as items of alcohol, weapons, and ammunition, and gift cards valued at more than Rs 10,000, all of which are subject to verification.

The citizens should abide by the Election Commission’s regulations and recommendations in word and spirit, the ADCP said.
