Vidisha Lok Sabha Election 2024: Madhya Pradesh has one Lok Sabha constituency, Vidisha. There are 29 legislative seats in the state. Eight Assembly segments make up the Vidisha seat: Bhojpur, Sanchi, Silwani, Vidisha, Basoda, Budhni, Ichhawar, and Khategaon. The constituency is open to all candidates and is not exclusive to members of Scheduled Tribes or Castes (SCs or STs).

The two major political parties in the constituency are the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Vidisha seat was won five times in succession by BJP politician and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in 1991 (by-election), 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004. Sushma Swaraj and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, two BJP mainstays, have previously held the seats.
Profile of Vidisha Constituency’s Demographics
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, there were 17,41,604 voters in the Vidisha seat, according to figures from the Election Commission. 8,21,976 votes were female, and 9,19,583 votes were male. There were forty-five third-gender voters. 3,835 ballots were cast in the constituency via mail. In Vidisha, there were 1,155 service voters in 2019 (1,133 males and 22 women).

 

There were 16,34,039 voters in the Vidisha constituency overall in 2014. 8,72,100 of these voters were men, and 7,61,915 were women. The ‘others’ group had 24 voters in this constituency. In the constituency, 1,334 postal ballots were cast. In 2014, there were 499 service voters in Vidisha (380 males and 119 women).

With a margin of 5,03,084 votes, BJP candidate Ramakant Bhargava won the seat for the first time in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. With 8,53,022 ballots cast, he had a 68.19% vote share. Shailendra Rameshchandra Patel, a candidate for the Congress, lost to him with 3,49,938 votes (27.97%). 12,50,244 legitimate votes were cast in total. Candidate Geetawali Ahirwar of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) received 14,409 votes (1.15%) to finish third.

Sushma Swaraj, a BJP mainstay, won the seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections for the second consecutive election. With 7,14,348 votes cast, her vote share was 66.53%. Lakshman Singh, a congressman and Digvijaya Singh’s brother, finished second with 3,03,650 votes (28.28%). Singh lost to Swaraj by a total of 4,10,698 votes. 10,73,473 valid votes were cast in this constituency overall. Kamlesh Sallam, the Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) candidate, received 10,824 votes (1.01%) to finish third.
