Writ sought to disqualify MLA Danam for moving from the BRS to the Congress

Padi Kaushik Reddy, the MLA from Huzurabad, filed a writ suit in the Telangana High Court, requesting an order to the speaker of the legislative assembly to remove Danam Nagender, the MLA from Khairatabad, from office for defecting from the BRS to the Congress. The hearing for the plea is set on Monday.

The argument put up by Padi Kaushik centers on Danam Nagender’s win as an MLA in the most recent Assembly elections, which he won on a BRS ticket. He added that up to his election as the Khairatabad MLA, Danam Nagender’s loyalty to the BRS remained unwavering.

But Kaushik said in his appeal that he was taken aback when Danam Nagender met with top TPCC officials and formally joined the Congress. In addition, the Congress declared Danam Nagender as its nominee for the Parliamentary seat of Secunderabad.

As a result, on March 18, 2024, Kaushik filed a petition for the speaker’s disqualification. The petition is still pending, however.

He now asked the high court to direct the speaker to send a notice to Danam Nagender via the writ suit.
