Yadav puts up a spectacular display at home

Dr. Mohan Yadav, the newly appointed chief minister of Madhya Pradesh after serving as a local BJP MLA for three terms, violated the long-standing custom of no high official, including the prime minister of the country, the chief minister of a state, or any other minister, staying overnight in Ujjain, the home of Lord Mahakal.

In addition to organizing a massive roadshow in his hometown, Yadav spent the whole Saturday night at his residence in the Geeta Colony neighborhood of Ujjain before departing early on Sunday morning for the state capital of Bhopal.
“Why can’t I spend the night back in Ujjain? In Ujjain, there is only one Raja or monarch, and that is Baba Mahakal. At the local BJP unit’s event in Ujjain on Saturday evening, Yadav said, “Since we are all his children and not any ruler, then why will I not stay back in Ujjain in the night.”

Since Lord Mahakal was the only king of the old city, the custom of no monarch staying overnight in Ujjain really goes back to the early 1800s. This was a well-thought-out plan by the Scindia royal family, the then-rulers of Ujjain, to not only move their capital from Ujjain to Gwalior but also to make sure that no other king took over in Ujjain after the capital was moved, according to Yadav.

Yadav went on, “I’m Lord Mahakal’s servant and son; why will he be angry with me? He’ll bless his son.” Notably, no political leader (head of state in MP or the center) has spent the night in Ujjain City for decades.

It has been made sure that a specific leader or head of government spends the night outside the boundaries of Ujjain city, even in the event that they choose to spend it in the city (which is home to one of the 12 jyotirlingas at the renowned Mahakal Temple).

“How can anybody claim that Baba Mahakal’s territory is limited to the Ujjain city limits? We are the offspring of Lord Mahakal, who rules over the whole world and not just the city of Ujjain, he said.

“Though the new CM has stayed back in Ujjain city, it doesn’t break the old tradition of heads of government leaving Ujjain after sunset,” says Pandit Mahesh Mishra, the priest of the Mahakal Temple. “Dr Yadav wasn’t in Ujjain as the CM, but was there as the city’s resident, son, and sewak of Baba Mahakal.”

Because of a misconception, no CM spent the night at Ujjain.
No political leader (head of state in the MP or the center) has spent the night in Ujjain City for decades. It has been made sure that a specific leader or head of government spends the night outside of Ujjain City, even in the unlikely event that any did.
