You’ve always been a wealth of knowledge: As Rajya Sabha member Manmohan Singh retires, Mallikarjun Kharge writes

As former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was leaving the Rajya Sabha, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a letter to him, according to news agency ANI.

“After having served for more than three decades, an era has come to an end,” the Congress head said in his letter to the former prime minister.

“I remember President Obama mentioning to you that whenever the Indian Prime Minister speaks, the whole world listens to him,” Kharge said in the post.

“For me personally, becoming a member of your cabinet has been an honor. You have been an inspiration to me and someone I have respected for guidance over the last ten years as the head of the Congress Party in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Despite personal difficulties, you have made it a point to be accessible for the Congress party during the last several years. The party and I will always be appreciative of this,” Kharge stated.

The country, according to Kharge, lacks your calm, strength and dignity in the prime minister’s office. Your expertise and insight will be missed by the Parliament. The loud voices full of falsehoods that characterize today’s politics contrast with your respectful, methodical, soft-spoken, but statesmanlike remarks.

He described the present political climate as “unscrupulousness” and said, “I still remember your speech on demonetisation, which you labeled as organized theft and legalised plunder” and “monumental management failure,” which has proven to be a terrible reality.” You demonstrated that criticism may be offered without becoming personal. The falsehoods of the present administration will soon be exposed by the country and its citizens. The truth cannot be concealed, just as the sun and moon can never be. Soon, people will understand how important what you said is.

He said, “A leader and guide to the industrialists and entrepreneurs, and a benefactor to all those poor who were able to climb out of poverty due to your economic policies,” hailing him as a hero to the middle class and the aspiring young.

He added, “I hope you will continue to be the voice of wisdom and moral compass to the nation by speaking to our citizens as often as possible, even after you retire from active politics.” I hope you have health, happiness, and serenity.
