A hearty “high five”!

Tuesday’s 5-0 thrashing of Chelsea by Arsenal put them ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League championship race. Kai Havertz and Ben White both scored twice.

With a historic victory against Chelsea, Leandro Trossard also found the net for the Gunners, who now sit three points ahead of Liverpool and four ahead of Manchester City. With two games remaining, City, the reigning champions, still has the power to decide the championship.

The key is the goal differential.
Arsenal and Liverpool have each played one less game. In the event that the men’s goal differential decides the championship, Mikel Arteta’s lead seems insurmountable at this point. “We’ve made our people extremely proud; it’s a significant derby for us, and I understand its significance,” Arteta said. “We had a great start to the game, but we weren’t quite efficient—in some parts of the pitch, we were a little careless. We were much more disciplined, more creative, more merciless in front of goal in the second half.

The championship rivals Chelsea and Arsenal suffered a severe blow before to kickoff when Cole Palmer, the danger man for the Blues, was declared unwell. Palmer has contributed to or scored over half of Chelsea’s goals in the Premier League this year, so the visitors really missed him.

Before losing to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday, Chelsea had gone eight games without a loss in the league despite having a dismal debut season under Mauricio Pochettino.

Blues completely blown away
However, they were overwhelmed by an Arsenal team eager to prove their championship credentials after losing their last home match against Aston Villa. Pochettino said, “It is not nice to see your team playing like this from the beginning of the game. It is such a difficult result and performance to accept.”
