After a fan’s death, Granada holds Athletic Bilbao in a La Liga match

After a supporter died at the stadium on Saturday, the match was rescheduled, and Athletic Bilbao moved up to fifth place in the La Liga standings with a 1-1 draw against Granada on Monday. Players from both teams honored the fan before the game in southern Spain began, with Victor Diaz of Granada placing a bouquet of flowers on the fan’s seat. Andalucia also observed a moment of silence. Over the weekend, with the visiting team Athletic ahead 1-0, the game was stopped in the eighteenth minute so the Granada supporter could obtain medical care.

In a thrilling match, Girona overcame their Catalan rivals for the first time in the top division, moving two points clear of Real Madrid, who are now in second place after their 1-1 draw against Real Betis on Saturday.
