Ben Stokes declines invitation to T20 World Cup An England player withdraws from the IPL 2024, making him unavailable for an ICC event

Ben Stokes, the captain of the England Test team, has withdrawn from the upcoming ICC World T20 on Tuesday. Stokes masterminded England’s victory at the World Cup in Australia. In the 2022 ICC event final, the England player stunned Pakistan with a brilliant fifty-two runs. By excluding himself from the T20 team for the ICC tournament, Stokes has given selectors a great deal of trouble ahead of England’s scheduled defense of its T20 World Cup title in the United States and the Caribbean later this year.

Stokes had to postpone his knee surgery last year in order to lead England’s team at the World Cup in India after retiring from One Day International (ODI) play. Nevertheless, in their attempt to retain their championship in the 2023 World Cup, Stokes-led England was unable to go beyond the group stage. After England’s withdrawal from the ICC tournament, Stokes had surgery in November.

In order to manage his workload and health, the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) boycotted the Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2024. Prior to the 2023 season beginning, Stokes was the most expensive auction purchase made by CSK. CSK acquired the former all-rounder for RR for INR 16.25 crore at the IP auction. Prior to the 2024 Indian Premier League, Stokes led England in the five-match Test series against Team India.

“Hopefully, skipping the World Cup and IPL will be a sacrifice.”
In the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), India outplayed Stokes and Co. and gave England’s Bazballers a 4-1 series loss. Stokes gave an explanation for his decision not to play in the T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League this year in a statement issued by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). In a statement issued by the ECB on Tuesday, Stokes said, “I’m working hard and focusing on building my bowling fitness back up to fulfil a full role as an all-rounder in all formats of cricket.” “I hope to be able to be the all-around player I want to be for the foreseeable future by opting out of the IPL and the World Cup,” Stokes said.
