Brazil defeats Peru in the South American FIFA World Cup qualifying match after Argentina defeats Bolivia

In a 3-0 triumph against 10-man Bolivia on Tuesday in La Paz, world champions Argentina, who had Lionel Messi rested, continued their successful start to South American World Cup qualification.

As a result of Marquinhos’ outstanding 90th-minute winner against Peru in Lima, Brazil now has the maximum six points after two games.

However, Uruguay under Marcelo Bielsa had a setback, giving up the advantage to lose 2-1 against Ecuador. After scoring the game-winning goal in Thursday’s 1-0 victory against Ecuador, Messi, who has had a busy schedule with his club Inter Miami, complained of being weary and watched his teammates from the bench. Messi was not listed as a replacement, though.

Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Tagliafico, and Nicolas Gonzalez scored to give Italy’s team an amazing win despite the absence of their star Lionel Scaloni.

Guillermo Viscarra made an outstanding save on a fantastic attempt from Chelsea midfielder Fernandez from 30 yards out, and he then performed well again to save a close-range drive from Julian Alvarez.

The energetic Alvarez contributed to Argentina’s first goal in the 31st minute by supplying Angel Di Maria, whose low cross was converted by Fernandez, who had timed his run into the area precisely.

Eight minutes later, Roberto Fernandez was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Cristian Romero, making Bolivia’s job much more difficult.

Tagliafico’s header that looped over Viscarra in response to a floating Di Maria free-kick gave Argentina a 2-0 lead at halftime.

After the intermission, the three-time World Cup champions were completely in charge. Alvarez struck the post in the 70th minute, and Viscarra was kept busy by attempts from Rodrigo De Paul and Angel Di Maria.

Gonzalez sealed the win with a left-footed drive seven minutes from time, taking advantage of more shaky defense from the hosts, who have lost both of their opening contests.

Scaloni expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance, noting that they “weren’t afraid to play with the ball,” and he provided a reason for Messi’s absence.

“Leo was not ready to play, he tried to recover, but he did not feel comfortable,” he said.

When Pedro Gallese expertly stopped Raphinha’s rocket in the 72nd minute, Brazil’s encounter with a resolute Peru team seemed to be in vain.

But in the very last second, Marquinhos expertly glancingly headed a corner Neymar had sent in into the far corner.

Colombia was forced to accept a point in a discouraging 0-0 tie in Santiago, Chile.

With Alexis Sanchez back in the starting lineup, Chile had the advantage and played some brilliant possession football, but they also lacked a cutting edge like their opponents.

After leading Uruguay to a successful start to his rule, Argentine Bielsa seen his squad fall to two goals from Ecuador defender Felix Torres in Quito.

Agustin Canobbio of Uruguay gave his team the lead in the 38th minute, but Torres of the host team equalized just before halftime by rising to head in a cross from Moises Caicedo.

After the halftime, Ecuador had the chance to take the lead thanks to a penalty, but Enner Valencia’s appalling kick from the spot missed.

Torres, however, once again proved his worth by scoring the winning goal by squeezing into a packed box and turning in a low cross from 16-year-old Kendry Paez.

Salomon Rondon’s late penalty helped Venezuela upset Paraguay 1-0 at home, raising hopes that they would qualify for the World Cup for the first time ever.

When Yangel Herrera scored in the 78th minute, the home team felt they had taken the lead. However, the referee’s inspection at the monitor revealed that the midfielder had handled the ball, much to the ire of the fans.

But in stoppage time, technology came through for Venezuela when it determined that Paraguayan defender Ivan Piris had handled during an aerial tackle in the area. Rondon calmly buried the penalty kick.

Six countries from South America have already qualified directly for the enlarged 48-team World Cup, which will be contested in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

A continental play-off will be held for the seventh of the ten countries.

Brazil has a goal differential advantage over Argentina after the first two rounds, while Colombia is third with four points, one point ahead of Uruguay and Venezuela.

Each of Chile, Peru, and Paraguay has one point.
