David Warner, who won the ODI World Cup, has withdrawn from the India T20I series

After withdrawing from the next five-match Twenty20 International series in India, which begins on Thursday, David Warner is returning home. In the just ended ODI World Cup, Warner led Australia to a record-tying sixth championship as their highest run scorer.

Cricket Australia stated in a statement on Tuesday that “selectors decided Warner would return home on the back of a successful yet demanding World Cup campaign.”

Warner is the most recent Australian celebrity to withdraw from the series, which will serve as a warm-up for the T20 World Cup in 2020.

All-rounder Aaron Hardie has been called up by Australia to take Warner’s spot. The 23-year-old played his first Twenty20 international match against South Africa in August of this year.

Warner amassed 535 runs, including two hundreds, in 11 games.

All-rounder Kane Richardson has been added to Australia’s roster to take Spencer Johnson’s place, who is out due to a hamstring injury.

Additionally, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc are not included in the T20I team, which will be captained by Matthew Wade, a batsman and wicketkeeper.

Due to his departure home, Australia will also be without its head coach, Andrew McDonald. Their temporary head coach will be Andre Borovec.

Beginning on November 23, the five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series comes only four days after Australia beat India in the Ahmedabad final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

With this series, Australia and India begin preparing for the T20I World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies the following year.

The series will finish in Bengaluru, however the opening game will take place in Vishakhapatnam.

Following the end of their tour of India, Australia will begin preparing for the home Test series against Pakistan, which will begin in Perth on December 14.

The following is Australia’s new T20I squad: Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Kane Richardson, Aaron Hardie, Jason Behrendorff, Sean Abbott, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, and Matthew Wade as captain.
