Devon Conway is ruled out of NZ vs. PAK, 4th T20I, after testing positive for COVID

After testing positive for COVID-19, Devon Conway, the opener for New Zealand, will not play in the fourth Twenty20 International match against Pakistan at Hagley Oval. In a statement, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced that Chad Bowes, a hitter, would join the T20I team to replace Conway.

After Conway’s zero, twenty, and seven-point performances in the first three T20I matches against Pakistan, Will Young has been added to the starting eleven for the fourth match. After testing positive yesterday, Conway has been placed in isolation at the team’s hotel in Christchurch, according to NZC.

Additionally, according to NZC, bowling coach Andre Adams has tested positive for Covid-19 and will continue to stay at the team hotel. It also said that Brendon Donkers, the men’s development coach for Canterbury, would assist the squad on Friday in Adams’ absence.

In this five-match series, New Zealand has already established an unstoppable 3-0 lead against Pakistan. Mitchell Santner, the temporary captain of New Zealand, had already missed the first game of the series after testing positive for Covid-19. However, he bounced back and is currently captain of New Zealand while Kane Williamson is out injured. Williamson sustained a slight right hamstring strain while batting in the second Twenty20 International.

Wiliamson’s injury is on the same leg as when he tore his ACL in his knee during an IPL 2023 fielding match. He had to have surgery to repair the damage in order to be ready for the Men’s ODI World Cup in India.
