Watch as Shan Masood gives David Warner Babar Azam’s signed jersey as a farewell present

Shan Masood, the captain of Pakistan during Tests, honored veteran Australian batsman David Warner on his Test retirement on Saturday with a touching gesture. The latter helped Australia win the series 3-0 in Sydney by defeating Pakistan by 8 wickets, with the later scoring the last fifty of his remarkable Test career.

Warner, chasing 130, made a respectable 57 before Sajid Khan caught him in front. As he returned to the dressing room for the last time during his more than 12-year career, the seasoned hitter was met with a standing ovation from the spectators at his home field, SCG.

Speaking at the Saturday presentation event, Masood gave Warner, who was finishing his career after 112 Test matches for Australia, an autographed jersey of former Pakistan captain Babar Azam as a farewell present.

Masood said, “We would like to give David Warner [the signed jersey] as a parting gift.”

“Many thanks for it. In the PSL, I’ll see you,” Masood said to Warner.

Warner is anticipated to continue playing Twenty20 cricket, but he also declared last week that he was quitting one-day international cricket. After amassing 8,786 runs at an average of 44.60 and a strike rate of 70.20, he left the red-ball match having scored 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries.

It’s essentially the realization of a dream. You finish with a 3-0 victory, capping an incredible 18 months to two years for the Australian cricket team. Win the World Test Championship, draw the Ashes series, and go on to the World Cup. It’s an amazing accomplishment to come here and finish 3-0, Warner said at the presentation.

Being here with so many outstanding cricket players makes me proud. These guys are really hard workers; the three huge quicks in the engine room, together with Mitchell Marsh, put in a lot of overtime in the gym and on the nets. Bravo to them, the physiotherapists, and the team behind that—it’s amazing. You should see them; they are incredible. It also helps that I won’t have to deal with them in the nets, which I don’t do anyway,” he said.
