For the Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant smashes Shikhar Dhawan’s record to reach a significant batting milestone
In the IPL 2024 encounter between the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, April 24, skipper Rishabh Pant proved unstoppable for the team.
After the hosts were asked to bat first, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter stepped out to bat for Delhi at No. 5. He scored 88 runs from 43 balls to help the losing IPL 2020 team put a total of 224 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets. Pant hit five fours and eight sixes when he was at the crease, adding 113 runs for the fourth wicket with Axar Patel, who made 66 runs after being moved to bat at number three.
In the ninth league stage encounter of the Indian Premier League 2024, Pant eclipsed veteran Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan’s record of eighteen fifty-plus scores for the Delhi Capitals with an undefeated 88-run effort. Dhawan participated in 63 IPL matches when he was affiliated with the team, amassing 18 fifty-plus runs (2 hundreds, 16 fifties). With a century and eighteen fifties in 107 games so far, Pant is DC’s top run scorer in the IPL.
Pant now leads all DC players with 50 or more IPL scores, only surpassed by former captain David Warner. Warner, who was left off the starting lineup for Wednesday’s IPL encounter against the Gujarat Titans, has two hundreds and 22 fifties to his name in 88 IPL games.

Pant was at his best during the encounter against GT. In the last over of the game, he struck Mohit Sharma for 31 runs, helping DC record its third-highest total in IPL history and the greatest total of any club against the Gujarat Titans in the lucrative tournament.
DC prevailed by a score of four runs.
Delhi defeated GT by four runs thanks to Pant’s unbroken 88, Axar Patel’s all-around performance (66 runs, 1 wicket, 3 catches), and Kuldeep Yadav (2/29 in 4 overs). The Titans managed to score just 220 runs in response to DC’s total of 224 runs. David Miller contributed 55 runs from 23 balls, while Sai Sudharsan top-scored for the visitors with 65 runs from 39 balls.
With eight points from nine games played in the IPL 2024, GT is ranked seventh in the standings after their loss to DC, their fifth defeat in as many games.
