Getting to the ball first, Andrey Rublev sets up the victory to go to the Wimbledon quarterfinals

Running to his right, Andrey Rublev assessed the distance to the ball before performing the amazing.

Rublev managed to miraculously swip the ball back over the net for a forehand winner from beyond the baseline on Sunday, setting him match point and a place in the quarterfinals. He did this while diving into the air and wishing beyond hope.

“I think that was the luckiest shot ever, perhaps. After making it to the second week at the All England Club for the first time, Rublev stated on the court, “It was simply luck. “I don’t think I can go through with it one more time.”

Alexander Bublik was defeated by Rublev in five sets, 7-5, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-7(5), 6-4, after having missed two match chances earlier in the match.

The seventh-seeded Russian became the eighth male player currently competing to make it through to the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments. But he has never pursued any of them further.

Rublev may have to take against seven-time winner Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Hubert Hurkacz was the opponent for the 23-time Grand Slam winner later on Sunday on Centre Court.

The middle Sunday of Wimbledon is just being formally scheduled for play for the second time this year. In 1991, 1997, 2004, and 2016 to clear a backlog of matches, the day was utilised by the organisers.

On Day 7 of the grass-court competition, eighth-seeded Jannik Sinner and unseeded Roman Safiullin both advanced to the quarterfinals. Safiullin upset 26th-seeded Denis Shapovalov 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3, while Sinner overcame Daniel Elahi Galan 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-3.

Earlier, Grigor Dimitrov, the 21st seed, became the last player to advance to the fourth round. He defeated Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 in a match that got off on Saturday, and he will now play Holger Rune, the sixth-seeded player.

The last position in the fourth round of the women’s draw was won by 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who was competing at Wimbledon for the first time.

The newest teenage tennis prodigy, the Russian qualifier, isn’t disappointed at the All England Club. Since Coco Gauff in 2019, Andreeva is the youngest player to go to the fourth round of the women’s Wimbledon tournament. In her maiden major competition, the French Open this year, she advanced to the third round.

Andreeva defeated 22nd-seeded Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 7-5 on No. 3 Court after being behind 4-1 in the second set.

Andreeva stated on court, “I came back from 1-4, so of course I feel great,” before describing how she maintains her composure. “Today, honestly, even if I wanted to express any feelings, I couldn’t since I was practically always out of breath. I was unable to display any emotion at all.

However, they left when Andreeva took a seat and briefly covered her face with her purple Wimbledon towel to collect herself.

To advance to the quarterfinals, Andreeva will next compete against No. 25 Madison Keys.

21 minutes had passed since Marketa Vondrousova became the first person to advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals before the third-round triumph. 32nd-seeded Marie Bouzkova was upset by Vondrousova 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Jessica Pegula, who was seeded fourth, also advanced to the quarterfinals. The American, who is 29 years old, defeated Lesia Tsurenko 6-1, 6-3, and will now play Vondrousova.

On Centre Court later that day, top-seeded Iga Swiatek faced up against Belinda Bencic.
