Harbhajan Singh Slams the Indian Team for “Fake Confidence by Winning on Bad Pitches” after the WTC Final loss

India secured a second-place finish in the rankings, which earned them a ticket in the ICC World Test Championship final.Australia, a team they defeated 2-1 at home earlier this year in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, was their opponent in the summit match, and they lost.

On spin-friendly fields, the BGT 2023 saw players like Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Nathan Lyon dominate. Even Australian rookies Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann turned heads with their impressive performances against rank turners.

With the exception of the fourth game, which went all the way and finished in a tie, the contests only lasted three days.

The renowned spinner Harbhajan Singh said that the Indian team’s dominant results on wickets where the ball begins to turn from the first session alone had given them a “false confidence.”

To win a Test match, he claimed, the players would need to have the ability to work hard for five days.

Harbhajan told Star Sports, “You cannot give yourself that fake confidence after playing and winning matches on poor pitches where the ball starts spinning from ball one.” To work hard for five days straight, you must make it a habit. You won’t be better prepared for these important games until then.

In the WTC final, which was contested at The Oval in London, India chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Australia reached 469 all out thanks to centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith, and their pacers then held India to 296.

With a commanding lead of 173, Australia increased it to 443 before declaring, dealt quickly with the Indian hitters, and bowled them out for 234 to secure a commanding 209-run victory.

Harbhajan, who participated in 103 Test matches between 1998 and 2015, emphasized how the surfaces at home prevented the Indian fast bowlers from accumulating enough overs before to the match.

“On these wickets, fast bowlers don’t get to bowl as often; spinners are deployed from the first over forward. We need to make a lot of corrections, Harbhajan stated.

A two-match Test series in the Caribbean will mark the beginning of the new WTC cycle for India.
