India wins the gold medal in the Shanghai Archery World Cup compound men’s and women’s team events

The men’s and women’s compound teams from India put up outstanding performances on Saturday to earn gold medals in the current Archery World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai.

In the women’s compound team event, India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur defeated Italy 236-225, opening their account with a gold medal in the season-opening global extravaganza. They only lost four points.

Abhishek Verma, Priyansh, and Prathamesh Fuge’s men’s team improved even more, losing just two points to beat Mike Schloesser, Sil Pater, and Stef Willems of the Netherlands 238–231.

The top-seeded women’s team defeated sixth-seeded Italy with only four points from a total of twenty-four arrows.

Jyothi, Aditi, and Parneet each missed the perfect ten just twice in the first three ends of six arrows, giving them a commanding 178–171 advantage against Marcella Tonioli, Irene Franchini, and Elisa Roner.

The Indians lost two points in the fourth end, but it made little difference since they won by an 11-point margin.

The men’s team, seeded fourth going into the tournament, defeated their Dutch opponents with almost perfect play.

After a flawless 60 in the first end, they lost only two points in the following two ends to complete the rout with another flawless 60 in the last set of six arrows.
