Indian Archers Reach the Recurve Mixed Team Bronze Playoff in Stage 3 of the World Cup

In the World Cup Stage 3 here on Friday, Indian archers were still on track to win a fourth bronze medal.

Tushar Shelke and Bhajan Kaur, the fourth-seeded recurve mixed team, defeated France and the Netherlands by identical 6-0 scores. However, they were unable to keep up their winning streak and lost 0-6 to their old foe Korea, setting up a bronze-medal matchup with Chinese Taipei.

In a dramatic shoot-off earlier on Thursday, multiple World Cup gold medalist Abhishek Verma defeated top seed and world number one Mike Schloesser 148-148 (10*-10) to go to the men’s compound solo quarterfinal. Verma is making a return after missing the first two stages of the World Cup.

The final-four match will take place after the medal matches on Saturday, and the eighth-seeded Verma will compete against Brazilian Luccas Abreu.

In the third stage of the competition, India has already taken home three bronze medals in the men’s recurve team, men’s and women’s compound teams.
