IPL 2024 match between SRH and RCB: SRH’s Top-Order Collapse Aids RCB in Snatching Revenge in 35 Runs

After a fierce struggle from the home team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs today. It wasn’t an easy victory, but the taste of retribution would be great for them.

As they advanced through their lineups, both sides put up a slogfest, but Hyderabad’s top order disintegrated today more than it has at any other point this season, thus it was not meant to be.

Du Plessis would have been pleased with the start RCB had as the captain and Virat Kohli went on the attack to set his side up well. The RCB won the toss and decided to bat first.

However, the SRH bowlers’ prompt removal of wickets proved to be the RCB’s kryptonite, and it required a brilliant combination between Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar—both of whom scored fifty of their own—to restore optimism to the team.

Patidar in particular provided the RCB with the much-needed burst of energy and runs as he struck 50 off only 20 balls and lit up the Hyderabad sky with five sixes.

However, when it came time for someone to step up with the ball, Jaydev Unadkat was the man to do it. He quickly removed Mahipal Lomror and two important hitters to continuously put pressure on the visiting team.

However, RCB managed to score 206 runs in 20 overs, aided to a cameo from Cameron Green, to post what would be a respectable total against a potent SRH batting order.

To everyone’s dismay, Bengaluru would cause chaos with the new ball right out of the gate, thus SRH would experience the unexpected.

Setting the tone early in the attack, Will Jacks scalped Travis Head in the first over.

Then, with the exception of Abhishek Sharma, the top order of SRH fell apart, and the hosts were comfortably ahead at 56-4 in the fifth over. Players like Yash Dayal and, more crucially, Swapnil Singh followed suit.

Just when it seemed that SRH could be spared any more suffering, Karn Sharma, the ace in the hole for RCB, emerged.

With two more wickets claimed in his first two overs, Karn’s miraculous bowling performance reduced SRH to a pitiful 85-6.

Next, captain Pat Cummins of SRH displayed their never-say-die mentality by launching a devastating blowout while limiting his damage to boundaries and relieving some of Shahbaz’s pressure at the other end.

After scoring a brilliant 31 runs in only 15 balls, Cummins was caught wanting by Cameron Green off a slower and shorter delivery, which resulted in a simple catch.

This was the last straw for Hyderabad, who, in spite of Shahbaz Ahmed’s best efforts, could muster too little too late as the RCB secured their second-ever 35-run victory of the season.
