IPL 2024: When MS Dhoni hit the last ball in the CSK vs. LSG match, the noise level peaked

During the current IPL 2024, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s appearance at the crease has caused decibel levels to soar, and on Tuesday, April 23, even his one-ball cameo sent the Chepauk fans into a frenzy.

When MS Dhoni has played, the noise levels at the games have always been higher than average, with decibel levels often measured at or over 125 dB. Players on the other team have also disclosed that when he steps out to bat or uses the gloves to dismiss a player, the crowd goes berserk.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, delivering CSK their second straight loss in a span of five days.

Before Dhoni appeared for the last two balls of the game, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, slammed an unbeaten century, and Shivam Dube produced a 27-ball 66. Dhoni then hit a four off his lone delivery to lead the side to a formidable total of 210.

Two times during the CSK innings and once during the LSG run-chase, the Chepauk crowd went crazy, matching Dube’s 16th over 6 in terms of noise levels with that final-ball 4 from Dhoni.

Both times, the noise level was 124 dB, and upon Quinton de Kock’s expulsion by Deepak Chahar, the noise level again reached 123 dB. However, Marcus Stoinis’ incredible century hushed the Chennai audience.

With three balls remaining, LSG defeated the highest total at the Chennai venue with to Stoinis’ 124 out of 63 balls, sending the dejected Chepauk fans on their departure.

Returning to the subject of noise levels this season, they have always been highest during CSK’s games, particularly when Dhoni is at the bat or even when he does his customary act of making some outstanding catches behind the stumps.

Earlier, Andre Russell had to cover his ears to protect himself from the loud noise produced by Dhoni’s arrival during CSK’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders due to the enthusiastic support of the fans at Chepauk.
