IPL2024: Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, said, “It was a hard pill to swallow, but LSG played really well.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad, captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), praised the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after his team’s six-wicket defeat to them in Tuesday’s 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

In actuality, LSG defeated CSK in back-to-back home and away games after winning the game at Ekana Stadium a few days before.

Giakwad’s 60-ball 108 not out enabled Chennai Super Kings to 210/4 in 20 overs before Stoinis, who came in after the first wicket fell in the first over, pounded a 63-ball 124 not out as Lucknow Super Giants romped to 213/4.

After 11 overs, Lucknow was 88-3 and seemed to be in danger, but in 19.3 overs, Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran combined for 70 runs, with Pooran hitting 34 off 15 balls, and Deepak Hooda for an undefeated 65 runs.

CSK was in control of the game, according to Ruturaj Gaikwad, but Stoinis was credited with helping LSG win.

“A difficult pill to swallow, but an enjoyable cricket match. LSG performed well on the back end. After the defeat, Gaikwad said, “We had the game under control till the 13th or 14th overs, then Stoinis produced a wonderful innings.

The CSK captain said, “It played a part, there was a huge amount of dew and it took our spinners out of the game,” when asked whether the dew had an impact on the game’s final exchanges. Otherwise, we may have improved the game’s control and depth. But you can’t influence it; these are just aspects of the game.

Ruturaj gave the following explanation when questioned about why Ravindra Jadeja was sent ahead of the very effective Dube: “Jaddu is batting at number 4 since we lost the second wicket within the powerplay.”

“We are firm in our opinion that Shivam would bat if there is a wicket after the powerplay. We are not allowed to make batters leave after. Since we have encountered dew throughout our practice sessions, I must admit that I felt our objective was just about par, not enough. However, I like how LSG batted,” he said.
