Lucknow’s Super Giant: Marcus Stoinis hundred trumps Ruturaj Gaikwad’s ton, helps Super Giants conquer Chepauk

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s elegant century was perfectly counterbalanced by Marcus Stoinis’s booming unbeaten hundred, which helped the Lucknow Super Giants defeat the Chennai Super Kings by six wickets in today’s IPL encounter.

With Stoinis (124* off 63 balls), LSG defeated the greatest chase in IPL history, 211 at the Chepauk, finishing at 213/4.

CSK secured a challenging 210/4 thanks to the combined efforts of Gaikwad (108* off 60 balls) and Shivam Dube (66* off 27 balls), who scored 104 runs for the fourth wicket partnership.

As a result, LSG defeated CSK in their uncommon back-to-back home and away victories after winning the game at Ekana Stadium a few days before.

The elegantly clean stroke of Gaikwad contrasted sharply with Stoinis’ innings.

The Australian smacked 13 fours and sixes in a row, but nothing was more remarkable than his six off bowler, Mustafizur Rahman, who had previously easily devoured LSG captain KL Rahul.

In contrast, Pooran was in full swing from the first ball, in part because to a 55-run partnership between Stoinis and a reeling Devdutt Padikkal (13 off 19), whose suffering was stopped when Matheesha Pathirana struck a 51-kilometer-per-hour blow to uproot the batter’s leg stump.

It meant that Pooran, who scored 70 runs alongside Stoinis, could not afford to take his time getting comfortable. However, he proved to be up to the challenge, hitting two sixes and a four off Shardul Thakur in the 16th over.

After bowler Pathirana dismissed Pooran, it was up to Stoinis to take LSG home. He did it by taking 15 runs off the 19th over that the Sri Lankan delivered.

With three balls remaining, Stoinis completed the task of scoring 17 runs off the last over Rahman bowled, destroying the Bangladeshi left-arm fast for 6, 4, 4 (+1NB), and 4. — PTI
