MCC punishes “three members” severely in connection with the incident involving Usman Khawaja in the Lord’s Long Room

The legendary Lord’s, known as the “Mecca of Cricket,” witnessed ugly scenes in the illustrious Long Room on Sunday afternoon when a few MCC members allegedly verbally and physically harassed two Australian players as they were returning to the dressing room following the conclusion of the first session of the final day of the second Ashes Test. Cricket Australia demanded a probe right once, and MCC reacted by taking harsh action against “three members” while an investigation is ongoing.

Following Jonny Bairstow’s departure at the beginning of the break, the enraged English supporters booed and yelled, “Same old Aussies, always cheating.” As Pat Cummins and his team entered the Long area to ascend the stairs to the dressing area, the jeers persisted. Usman Khawaja and David Warner were then “verbally abused” and “physically contacted” by MCC members who wanted to express their outrage over Bairstow’s removal.

Cricket Australia released a statement after the event. “Australian management has requested the Marylebone Cricket Club [MCC] investigate several incidents involving spectators in the members area during lunch on day five of the Lord’s Test,” a spokeswoman for Cricket Australia said.

The Australian team’s players and staff allegedly encountered physical and verbal abuse while walking through the members’ section to go to lunch.

While the three MCC members have now been suspended awaiting investigation and that they will not make an entrance into the venue until the conclusion of the inquiry, MCC made an unequivocal apologies to the Australian team in a statement published seconds after the game.

The statement said, “They will not be permitted back to Lord’s while the investigation takes place and were informed of this this evening by MCC Chief Executive, Guy Lavender.” Despite Pat Cummins’ denial that there was a physical altercation during the post-game press conference, the club’s values were violated by a small number of members, according to the statement, “We maintain that their behaviour was completely unacceptable.

“MCC condemns the conduct seen and reiterates its regrets to Cricket Australia. We are quite unhappy to be discussing inappropriate conduct in the Long Room, which Pat Cummins himself said is known for being “really welcoming.” A fantastic five days of Test cricket have come to a dramatic conclusion.
